An incredibly nice guy and just as incredible illustrator, Chi-Yun has honored with this little interview. From beer bottles to owl ladies I present the art of Chi-Yun.
A bit about yourself?
My name is Chi-Yun. I live in Somerville MA with my wife, son, and
cats. I do a bit of freelance illustration, some comics, and create
video slot machines during the day.
Your medium of choice?
Pen/brush and ink. Digital
What are you into currently, your influences?
Comicbook-wise I’m currently reading It Was the War of the Trenches by
Jacques Tardi. Recent musical interests have included MGMT’s latest
album, Deastro, Crystal Castles, and Chromeo’s Fancy Footwork. I
haven’t been able to watch as many movies as I would like lately
because we’re in the process of trying to sell our house so our
theater setup is kind of disabled, but the last film I watched was the
doc about Jack White, Jimmy Page, and the Edge: It Might Get Loud.
When not being artistic you like to?
Play with my kid, hang out with my wife, read comics, listen to music,
bike, play video games (we have a Stylus group on Steam!)

Any advice for the up and comers?
It’s not easy to make a living being an artist, and I don’t consider
myself a success yet. But what career is easy right? Everything your
teachers and mentors tell you about hard work and determination are
all true. If you really love making art, then you have a good chance
of becoming successful at it. Either way, I’m sure most of the young
artists out there will become much more successful than me. I, for
one, am horrible at self-marketing so that’s another aspect of the biz
that I’d recommend up and comers to put a little focus on. Get your
work out there any way you can!

We started already?
Whats on the horizon for you?
Trees.
Oh, I also do a monthly illustrations for the Beer Advocate magazine,
and I’ve started a weekly webcomic called Outlands.
